What is NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s national Scheme for people with disability. The NDIS provides support to eligible people with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial disability. The NDIS gives all Australians peace of mind that if they, their child or loved one is born with or acquires a permanent and signicant disability, they will get the support they need.

How will I know if I am eligible?

You might be eligible for the NDIS if you:

- live in Australia and are an Australian citizen or permanent resident

- are under 65 years old

- have a lifelong impairment or disability that stops you from doing everyday things by yourself

What does the NDIS do?

The NDIS funds necessary support services that are linked to outcomes identified in a participant’s plan. These support services must: Be associated with day-to-day living and activities that increase your social/economic participation Be a health resource or a piece of equipment/assistive technology Help you build valuable skills that will improve your life, including opportunities to work, furthering your education and volunteering

Do I need to set goals?

During your NDIS planning meeting, the planner will talk to you about the goals you want to achieve across many aspects of your life. The planner asks this because a NDIS plan is based on goals, and supports will only be funded if they will help you meet these goals. So it’s important to have goals for your NDIS planning meeting. We understand that a lot of participants in the NDIS aren’t completely sure of their long-term goals.
